Posting late today - having been distracted by watching the Strictly final. I don't usually watch too much of it but this year I found myself drawn into the series and became particularly invested in Chris McCausland's story. Probably like many others, I tuned in at the start of the series out of a curiosity to see how he would manage as a blind contestant on the dance floor. The first routine blew my mind and from that point I was hooked to see how he would progress. It wasn't just his improvement with dancing that kept me watching though, it was his partnership with Dianne Buswell Their friendship and commitment to each other shone throughout and as they lifted the glitterball trophy together this evening, they both seemed genuinely pleased to have done it for each other.
I found it quite emotional to watch their final dance - a waltz to 'You'll Never Walk Alone.' That's a track that means a lot to many people for a variety of reasons and their performance demonstrated just how much dance and music can touch us emotionally. Whether it be watching the emotion conveyed through a dancer's moves or the feelings evoked by choral harmonies, there's something magical about the process - almost as if all the stars align for that moment.
The poem that I'm sharing for this post is called 'Starlight' which seems apt on this evening of glitter, sequins and dancers who have shone on the dance floor.
Starlight
Sometimes, if you are luck
You come across a star
Whose light can brighten up your day,
Even from afar.
Within the darkest corner,
Their embers truly glow,
Asking for nothing in return,
A privilege to know.
If you should be so lucky
To stumble on your star,
You'll always feel their brightness,
No matter where you are.
